Water Capital Grants
Water Capital Grants for laying concrete yards, covering open concreted fouled areas or fencing a watercourse have been around in different forms and names for a number of years.
Initially there has been a Catchment Water Grant with a maximum £8k claim which would have covered 320sq m of concrete, to the most recent CS Water Capital Grant which was a £20k x 3 Claim covering three different areas of improving water quality on your farm.
Since the beginning of the year, with your local Catchment Sensitive Farming Officer approval, this grant now has no fixed upper limit on the basis of paying £72.5/sq m of roofing or £33.64/linear sq m of track (for example).
There are more checks and balances to be made but the size of the grant can be a lot more than £20k.
Some farmers have taken huge advantage of some of these grants in the past, whilst others are still not aware of what they can do for your farm infrastructure. Yes, you will probably need to put 30-40% of your money with the grant to get be able to invest in complying with future and current regulations.
This makes a lot of financial sense to make your business more sustainable and enable you to have a licence in future to farm livestock on your holding. Grab the grants whilst they are there, if you have a long term plan!
