Looking Ahead to 2023 - Grants & Schemes

Here’s a quick round up of what we are expecting to see in 2023.

Agri-environment Schemes
From the 1st January 2023 all ES (Environmental Stewardship), HLS (Higher Level Stewardship) and CS (Countryside Stewardship) agreement holders will all be on the same Terms & Conditions - hopefully this means there will be greater flexibility and opportunities for agreement holders, including a chance to switch to new schemes and apply for new capital grants offerings, whilst using a simplified application/amendment system.

  • Countryside Stewardship (CS) – Details for the 2023 application window of new agreements starting 1st January 2023 will be released by the end of February.
  • Capital Grant Scheme (CGS) – Opportunity to apply for the Capital Grant Scheme remains open year-round at this time.
  • Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) – Operating the same as 2022, hopefully we will receive new information regarding the future of:
    • Entitlements
    • Delinked payments – BPS claimants must claim BPS in 2023 to be eligible
    • Reduction of payments
    • Split payment approach (July/December)

Entitlement/land transfer window expected to open at the end of January 2023.

  • Farm Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) Round 1 – Claims are still being paid. RPA aim to have paid those not needing to provide further information by the 31st January 2023.
  • Slurry Infrastructure Grant – Initial application window remains open until 31st January 2023.
  • Farm Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) Round 2 – Expected to be released in early 2023, covering productivity, slurry equipment, animal health and welfare items.

Cross compliance visits will continue to happen – 2022 saw a record number of farmers/landowners getting visits to look at Cross Compliance and the management of schemes.  Make sure you are prepared!
