Fertiliser Update - 16th December 2025

Overview

Market activity across global fertiliser sectors has slowed as year‑end approaches, with varying pressures on pricing and supply. Spring logistics and product availability remain key considerations for UK growers.

Urea & Ammonium Nitrate (AN)

  • Global urea markets are quiet, with regional price pressure varying.
  • Egyptian values remain steady following earlier pre‑CBAM purchases; Algerian material has flowed to longer‑haul destinations.
  • In the America’s, spring demand is anticipated but current demand is subdued, softening values.
  • Middle Eastern producers are focused on completing the recent Indian tender, with another possible late 2025/early 2026.
  • UK urea prices have eased slightly due to imminent vessel arrivals and a weaker exchange rate. This is expected to be temporary, with values likely to firm as demand returns.

Nitrates

  • CF Fertilisers is sold out for January and February close to completion with late March the next expected availability.
  • Nitrate pricing is expected to remain firm and may increase as spring requirements build.
  • Supply into early 2026 is limited, reinforcing the need for forward planning.

Sulphur

  • Sulphur availability into the UK and Europe is reduced due to factory production cuts.
  • EU tariffs continue to restrict Russian sulphur, preventing UK access to this supply.
  • UK‑produced polysulphate remains a key option for growers looking to secure sulphur requirements.

Straights, PKs & NPKs

  • Phosphates: Global values remain slightly weaker due to ongoing subdued demand. However, UK spring pricing may be higher due to vessel lead times.
  • Potash: Prices are marginally lower, influenced by soft global demand and exchange rate changes.
  • With potential pressures on supply chains and logistics in early 2026, growers are encouraged to have material on farm well ahead of usage.

Logistics

  • Spring logistics capacity is tightening, with expected bottlenecks in delivery and handling.
  • Growers are advised to secure at least part of their spring fertiliser needs before the Christmas break to ensure timely supply.
