Farming Transformation Fund – Slurry Infrastructure Grant

DEFRA has recently released the first details for the Slurry Infrastructure Grant, with the application window expected to open in early autumn.  The grant is intended to help farmers who already have a slurry system on site but require an increase in capacity to meet 6 months storage availability.
Those eligible to apply include, dairy, beef and pig farmers already using a slurry system who are looking to:

  • Replace existing store which is no longer fit for purpose
  • Build additional storage if current store is compliant
  • Expand compliant storage

It is important applicants are aware that building of additional storage (to make slurry total capacity on farm 6 months) or expansion of slurry lagoons is only available if the current slurry storage meets SSAFO regulations.  Pre-March 1991 lagoons are exempt, HOWEVER… if substantial changes have been made (e.g., structural changes to increase size or relocation) then the slurry lagoon is no longer exempt.

Minimum grant funding £25,000 – maximum £250,000, grant covering maximum 50% of eligible cost of project, rest of project costs must be paid through private sources (e.g., savings or bank loan).

2 stage application process:

  1. Eligibility checker (opening early autumn)
  2. Full application (winter) for those who score strongest as stage 1
