Don't Forget About the NVZ Closed Period!

If your land is in an NVZ, remember the closed periods for spreading manures and nitrogen fertiliser.

For GRASSLAND:
You can’t spread high readily available nitrogen manures (high RAN manures), for example slurry, poultry manure or digestate:

On sandy or shallow land, from 1st of September to 31st of December
On all other soils, from 15th of October to 31st of January
You also can’t apply manufactured Nitrogen fertilisers from 15th of September to 15th of January*

For TILLAGE LAND:

You can’t spread high readily available nitrogen manures (high RAN manures), for example slurry, poultry manure or digestate:

On sandy or shallow land, from 1st of August to 31st of December
On all other soils, from 1st of October to 31st of January
You also can’t apply manufactured Nitrogen fertilisers from 1st of September to 15th of January**

*On grassland, you may apply up to 80kg/ha of Nitrogen no later than the 31st of October (no more than 40kg/ha in one application).
**Exceptions exist for winter OSR, Asparagus, Brassica, Salad Onions, Parsley and Bulb Onions.
