Cattle Records Update

Are your cattle records all up to date? If not, then now is the time to change this. If you are using a paper book/excel spreadsheet or software, then you need to make sure that the information you have recorded is correct. See below the information you need to record:

  • Animal ID
  • Beed
  • Sex
  • DOB
  • Dam ID
  • On to Farm Date
  • Off Farm Date
  • Destination moved to
  • Destination moved from

This then needs to be kept up to date after each movement/birth or death. It is also good to keep all the receipts from the CTS online system in the same place as the movement records.

Do you find yourself running late or cannot remember the time scale to when you should submit cattle deaths or movements to BCMS? See below key dates that must be met.

  • Movements – You have 3 days from the date the animal moved on/off the farm to record this on the BCMS system. You will need to provide both the animals ear tag number and date of movement.
  • Deaths – From the date of death, you have 7 days to record this on BCMS and send the completed passport in. You will need to provide both the animals ear tag number & date of death. Make sure that you take a copy of the passport before you send it to add to the movement book.

You need to make sure that you print off the receipt from the CTS online system after each Movement/Death, so you have a record.
