Are You Winter Ready?
Most farmers minds are now moving away from the stresses that 2024 presented and are now thinking about how best to set up 2025.
Cover crops and grass reseeds are being planted and winter cereals are being delivered for planting later. It would be all too easy to forget this year as a one off, but we must be mindful that some lessons should not be forgotten. A little time and preparation now for this winter could save a lot of time and hassle in the spring.
With housing livestock, farmers need to be able to answer the following questions for storing manure and slurry. How many? How much? and How long? Once these questions have been answered, the farmer can start to ask what if?
The environment agency has produced a fact sheet https://tinyurl.com/EA-Fact-Sheet on the questions that you need to be looking at now and have the answers to be winter ready. If you need help with looking for practical cost effective slurry storage solutions or helping with the paperwork to remain compliant, please contact Allaster Dallas at Tel: 07496 760242 or e-mail: allasterdallas@fcgagric.com
