Animal Health & Welfare Review
The SFI annual health and welfare review pays farmers who keep livestock for a vet visit to review the health and welfare priorities on their farm. This review must include test results from an endemic disease test (dependent on the type of livestock you keep) and a general health and welfare review of the livestock.
The aim of the review is to reduce endemic diseases such as BVD in cattle, improve animal welfare and productivity, and ensure you are not using more medicine than necessary. In the long run, it should prove profitable for your farm.
In order to be eligible for the health and welfare review, you must have an SBI linked to a CPH number in England and have been eligible for BPS in 2023. You must also have at least:
- 11 or more beef cattle, or
- 11 or more dairy cattle, or
- 21 or more sheep, or
- 51 or more pigs.
If you have more than one type of livestock, you must pick for which one you would like a review, as you cannot currently have a review for more than one type of livestock per year.
These are the rates for funding:
- £522 for a beef cattle review
- £372 for a dairy cattle review
- £436 for a sheep review
- £684 for a pig review
